Gone Pottering

I am actually afraid... to surf the web or watch the news.

I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING..!!!!

My cousin Kathleen, is a huge Harry Potter fan - okay, we love him too, so I wasn't surprised at all when she invited us out last night to stand in line at our local Meijer (supermarket) to get a copy of the latest HP book at midnight!

In the past I would never have done this, but Chris is getting older, and it was a Friday night... Chris would love the idea of getting to stay up late, hanging out with Aunt Kathleen and the instant gratification on the new book!

We went out to dinner first, yet another meal out this week, notice no Weight Watchers post! Then we headed to Meijer's to stand in line! We got there at 9:40 and were surprised that the line was quite short! Our plan was to take turns in line, with our DH's and Chris, giving us all a chance to wander the store. Kathleen and I never left the line....

Anyway for the next 2.5 hours we stood in an unmoving line with a bunch of High School-College age kids! We kept busy chatting and watching our fellow Potter fans play a game of "Guess the flavor of the Bertie Bott's Magic Flavor Bean". It was entertaining to watch their faces change as they found they had a dirt, sardine or grass flavored one.

It was NOT fun when Chris gagged and almost hurled when he got a snot flavored one! We had to coach him through it making him suck down a slurpee to get the thought out of his mind and taste out of his mouth. He didn't want to play after that, and we whole hearted agreed! On the way home he said, and I quote "That was the worst snot I ever tasted!" Priceless...

By 11pm the line was shockingly long and full of (big) kids dressed in various Hogwarts garb. Chris was among the few elementary age kids there, and had NO desire to dress up! Then they handed out Dixie cups of punch and dice sized pieces of cake. They had temporary tattoos, Harry Potter glasses and crossword puzzles to keep us busy! (not)

Finally at midnight, with very little fanfare, we all got our books for $19.99, but if we purchased another $30 in the store we got another $7.oo off! Eggs, milk, cereal, bagels, lunch meat, bananas and a Tiger's tee for Chris.... easily done.

So.... we got "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for $13.99, gave Chris a glimpse of what it was like to wait for tickets to see "Madonna" back in the day.

When we were home, he begged me to read the first chapter before he went to sleep (not really a bedtime story) but I figured what the heck! So I let him crawl in bed with us and I read the first chapter aloud to him...

You didn't think I'd let him read it ahead of me did you?
