Best Line Of The Week

Chris has had a wonderful first week of school. He got a fun, nurturing, teacher; his best friend is in his class; he got the safety job he's always wanted and he is thriving on the social aspect of school (very important for onlies!)

Yesterday morning as he was putting on his Starbury Basketball Shoes* he said, "Mom, (we'll call him Billy) Billy is jealous of my Starbury's."

I said, "Really? Why do you think that?"

"Well, he kept telling me, "You know, those shoes aren't cool!""

Then I laughed, and said, "That's very preceptive of you Chris, you are probably right. I hope you were nice to him even though he wasn't being very nice to you."

"Yeah, I was! I told him, Well, that's YOUR opinion!"

I told him that next time, he could say in a very happy way, "Oh really? I love them!" and leave it at that! I told him that Billy just wanted to make himself feel better by criticizing him and by showing the slightest bit of irritation was giving Billy just what he wanted... He sighed and sagely said, "I know Mom, I know..."

*If you have never heard of Starbury's, click on the link above. Cool BB shoes (all the rage with pre-teen boys) at a VERY affordable price. Started by BB player Stephon Marbury, to market cool BB shoes to kids of all economic backgrounds, in stark comparison to the BB stars that market big $$ shoes that most kids can't afford. Great story!

On a personal note: I have found the shoes to wear surprisingly well, but Chris only wears them for 'looks' this is not a running or hiking shoe. Think those cute sandals that only go with your pink polka dot skirt... or in this case your basketball shorts and Pistons jersey...

The pair I bought last spring had no arch support at all. So for a $15 shoe I purchased $8 arch supports and he has never complained of foot fatigue. Still worth the price, he thinks he's cool and I didn't pay $100 for shoes he will outgrow in 6 months. Bonus!
