I called our agency yesterday to make sure they had received our last piece of paper from our SW. They transferred me to our 'Adoptive Family Worker' (whatever that means) and found that our AFW is the Executive Director of the Agency! I was thrilled.
She told me that she had gone over everything and that we were all set and we are considered 'Active' meaning that they will be trying to match us with a birthmother, ASAP. She said that she had a birthmother in mind for us... (eek) That this was the 6th time working with her...(?!). She was Hispanic, from Texas, but didn't know if she was carrying a girl or not. That she would be looking into that the next time they had a 'Matching Meeting'. She said Matching Meetings happen regularly each week. So we could be presented with birthmothers anytime now!
Here's the kicker.... she explained a couple of things I didn't realize before.
1. They are not allowed, by law to work with birthmothers before their third trimester, unless the girl is in an abusive or homeless situation. When families are officially 'Matched', the wait time is 2 weeks to 2 months MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. She said that their average placement, from the time a family starts working with them until placement, was 6 months last year. That there were 3 families in 100 that had been working with them a 'long time' and that they actually skewed that average making it seem a lot longer than it actually is... (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!) She said that usually the turnaround is 3-4 months starting with the time we began working with them! She said, "And you began your process last month".
We could very well be placed with a baby before school gets out!!!
Here's our freak-out... We thought we would have 6 months or more to save up the balance.... !!! In the end we might have to decline a birthmother to give us more time! (NOT!)
Jim and I have decided that our baby will come in May or after school gets out. This won't get in the way of Jim's work trip to Vegas, our Chicago trip, or 6th grade graduation AND .... big and, Jim's annual bonus (please pray that GM actually gives them this year) will be deposited by then!!! Whew.... can we control this?????
I'm feeling this weird feeling.... I think it's excitement!! Fighting the urge to push it away...
God had us climbing this mountain for a reason; to build our faith. We are near the top, and He is still asking us to put our faith in Him. Without Him, we can not finish this climb! Pray for our faith, that God will bring us the blessing we have been asking for and that we will be faithful enough to receive it.
