I'm sick as a dog and wonder why?
- In the month of February there were a total of 20 weekdays.
- Of those 20 days there were 5.5 vacation days and 3 snow days or 11.5 school days.
- Of those 11.5 my son Chris was sick 1.5 days. A whopping total of 10 school days for my son.
- 3 of those 10 days, were this week; where I was sick in bed! That gives me a grand total of 7 weekdays, to get all My Stuff done, in the month of February!
- On top of this, Jim was home sick 3 days during winter break and he also 'worked from home' on Valentines Day. He got to go to work 16 days this month!
As I was laying on the couch looking at the little mounds of dog fur on the carpet and the dust on the TV. I was wondering why I couldn't keep up with My Stuff this month. My paperwork is piled high, the cupboards are bare, the house needs to be cleaned, etc. I didn't achieve what I set out to do in the month of February. Maybe I have A.D.D? Maybe I'm undisciplined?
I kept thinking about My Stuff and all the other things that were piling up when I had an epiphany; Motherhood had gotten in the way of being a housewife.
Wait, that's a blessing!! That's not undisciplined, it's adjusting your priorities! I am so lucky to be a stay-at-home-mom. I don't have A.D.D!
I cried when Chris began First Grade because The Plan was to have another baby by then. What would I do with myself waiting for that baby? I very quickly learned to fill my time and now I'm used to having 15-20 days a month to do My Stuff while he's at school.
Yet, if I had gone back to work, I would have missed out on hanging out with him during the 4.5 sick/snow days. I got to teach him how to play Backgammon and now he is hard to beat. We read books snuggled under the covers, we watched TV and played video games (can't beat 'em join 'em). This is why My Stuff isn't done.
Because Jim was sick for most of winter break, I got to take Chris to his first Piston's game. I almost passed on the tickets, before I realized, "I can take him! It's not like it's rustic camping!" (I draw the line when you have to dig your own toilet) The rest of the week we hung out with friends, shopped and had a lunch date at the mall just the two of us, like when he was little. Only this time, he ordered off the adult menu!
What things my husband has missed out on by being our sole provider. I should be thanking him - maybe that will be the subject of a later blog...
So I take it all back! I'm am sick as a dog, but not because I didn't have any time to myself, but because I worked very hard this month at being a MOM!
My Stuff can wait... I've got Motherhood to Do!

Dust can wait and so can dinner but time doesn't stand still with our kids. Blink and they are 21 and 14. Love every minute and don't feel guilty. They (the kids) won't remember how well you cleaned house. I don't remember my mom ever cleaning the house!:) And I know mine won't either. After all there is alway's tomorrow to scrub toilets. You are an awesome mom.
