Baby Update... Hamster That Is

Well, I have been waiting to post this... I wanted to have pictures but the mommies are doing their very best to hide their sweet babies. Occasionally, I have had sightings but when I am discovered, the babies are quickly stolen away under the bedding.

They are just a week old today and have the barest amount of fur. The most fun has been listening for their tiny squeaks. Their sounds are pretty loud and very distinguishable from the adult hamsters.

I have tons of wrapping to do, cookies and a cheesecake to bake, groceries to buy, but all holiday responsibilities have all but stopped, as I can't tear myself away from "Baby Watch". Such sweet distraction, these crazy beasts have amused me to no end. They have moved the babies to a new nest each day and one day all 5 of them slept on top of each other in the wheel! I got the best peeks this day, I got to watch her nurse them and clean them. My chores seemed so unimportant!

The most exciting news is that Auntie Spice has grown quite a bit over the last week and we believe that she is expecting too. Soon we will have to start calling her Mommy Spice, maybe Spice Mama.

This discovery caused a bit of a stir in our home. So yesterday we headed back to our wonderful family owned pet store. Chris was armed with his birthday money and us with looks of disbelief.

We came home with a second cage, lots of plastic tubes, a cool look-out tower, more protein pellets, more chew toys and a Partridge in a pear tree!

We had to get the extra chew toys for Spice. I guess being a pregnant hamster is very upsetting, uncomfortable and a hormonal time... that is why she has been 'nipping' us. She hasn't broken the skin or anything, but now Chris is afraid to hold her. The pet store assured us that she will be fine once the pregnancy is over. They better be right or they are going to be getting a crazy nipping, hormonal hamster returned.

I remember being upset, uncomfortable and hormonal during my pregnancy but I don't remember biting anyone! PMS Maybe...

Uh! Oh! More December Birthdays!!!
